Dog Units
General Security Ltd is committed to offering you the most effective and efficient dog handling service that is available, for this reason we have recently decided to replace our training regime with other organisations by the system certificated by NTIPDU (National Training Inspectorate for Professional Dog User). This offers more specific categories of Training and Licensing of Dog Handlers. Not only were this, NTIPDU instrumental in the drawing up of BS8517 a standard resisted by many in the industry because of its strict requirements. As a result we are now training all of our dog handlers to EDI Level 2 Award for General Purpose Security Dog Handlers. Further, this award scheme requires ongoing continuous training – to ensure staff members are up to date with all new developments in the industry. We believe this gives our customers peace of mind in knowing that they have competent staff who are trained specifically for the task required. This is also the standard we require from those outside companies and individuals who come to us to provide their training.
Records of all training, initial and continuing, undertaken by our handlers and dogs can be made available for inspection.
Dog units are a very effective alternative to having several guards manning a site, examples might be: Premises where the site is not easily and rapidly observable. Container yards, industrial estates and high- racked warehousing are typical areas in which a dog can detect intruders unsighted to a single patrol
-
Premises covering large areas that needs to be "swept" frequently and thoroughly, such as schools, athletic stadiums and parks.
-
In areas of high risk to patrols operating alone where crime potential is high - unmanned parking, pedestrian walkways at night or known gang areas.
-
Where people or premises are subject to threats of violence or damage
The use of dog patrols is not restricted to secure or private places. They will come into contact with employees, customers and the general public. Our staff work safely and the dogs are trained so as not to present any hazard to staff and others who are abiding by the law.
Arms and Explosive Search Dogs (AES)
General Security Ltd provide a well balanced AES dog unit, consisting of both ex-military and experienced security industry dog handlers. Each military handler has operational experience in theatres such as Northern Ireland, Iraq, Bosnia or Kosovo.
All dog teams undergo a rigorous and demanding course with a thorough assessment, prior to being deployed. They also have regular training to maintain a high operational standard of efficiency. This keeps them up to date with current explosive types and delivery methods, whilst keeping in mind past techniques.
AES handlers require an above average skill and concentration level. After their training they will have a thorough knowledge of search procedures, risk assessments, evaluations, cordoning and control.
All our teams will conform to the same standards laid down for both military dog teams and by the Home Office.
Each dog is trained to search for and locate substances such as PE4, C4, TNT, Cordite, Semtex, short barrel weapons and ammunition. They will be able to search a wide range of venues including compounds, buildings, vehicles, ports, shopping centres, stadiums and arenas, aircraft and more.
Narcotic Search Dog
With the widespread use and availability of various illegal drugs, it is paramount that there are highly trained and professional teams to combat the supply of these drugs in public areas and in entertainment venues. As with our AES teams, Narcotic Search Dog Teams undergo rigorous training and are able to search and locate a variety of drugs such as cocaine, crack cocaine, ecstasy, amphetamines, LSD, marijuana etc. Teams are competent in dealing with a range of environments – searching vehicles, individuals, public venues, buildings – and any other place that a customer might require.
Teams will report to the client’s management and follow their instructions and act according to the client’s policies.
The prevailing standard for this class of dog is either NTIPDU EDI Level 2 Award for Narcotic Detection Dog Handler and/or Home Office Approval.
